About Kai Lohbeck

Born in 1981 in Wesel, Germany. Studied Biology at the Universities of Marburg and Kiel, Germany (2002-2009), and the University Centre in Svalbard, Norway (2007). Diploma in Biology from Kiel University in 2009.

PhD student in Thorsten Reusch's and Ulf Riebesell's labs, working at the interface of Evolutionary Biology and Marine Sciences at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, Germany (2009-2013), PhD in Evolutionary Biology from Kiel University in 2013.

Post-doctoral researcher at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, working with experimental evolution in microcosms and large-scale mesocosms to study adaptive evolution of coccolithophores and diatoms to ocean acidification and warming (2013-2015).

Joined Anna Godhe's lab at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden in August 2015, working on evolutionary adaptation to warming in marine diatoms with a post-doctoral research fellowship granted by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

 

Main research interests:

Adaptive potential of marine microbes to rapid environmental change, in particular to climate change, and the role of genotypic diversity in large phytoplankton populations to maintain ecosystem functioning.
