Marine biology

In marine biology we study living things in the oceans and other saltwater environments such as estuaries, wetlands and shores. We study patterns and processes both within and among individuals, as well as life’s interactions with the environment. We aim to understand dynamic interactions on scales from the local to the global, and we take great interest in biological evolution in the sea. How does human activities influence the life in the ocean and in costal areas? How can marine living resources be used sustainably? These are main questions in much of our research. Much of our work is cross-disciplinary and we integrate knowledge and investigation from different fields of science. To reach our goals we use experiments both at the lab and in the field, and for analyses we have access to advanced technologies for physiological, chemical and genetic analyses. To advance theories and to analyze data we can perform advanced modeling, computer simulations and statistical analyses.
