About Ellika Faust

My main research interest is the population genetics of natural populations and the application of this information for conservation and a sustainable use of aquatic resources. I use molecular tools to try to understand and describe ecological and evolutionary processes in the ocean. Previously I’ve used microsatellite data to investigate the origin and potential route of establishment of the invasive Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas) in Sweden and Norway. I am currently investigating the genetics of Corkwing wrasse (Symphodus melops), a fish whose commercial value has increased drastically due to its application as a cleaner fish in salmon farms. I am using genomic methods to investigate the genetic diversity, population structure and potential local adaptation of Corkwing wrasse in the Skagerrak and Kattegat area in order to contribute to sustainable fishery.
