About David Turner

Research

My current research focuses on the development and application of chemical models for seawater. It is well known that the reactivity of the chemical elements in seawater is dependent on the chemical forms(s) in which they are present. Although equilibrium conditions are far from universal, the ability to calculate chemical speciation at equilibrium provides the starting point for an understanding of an element’s chemistry in seawater. My current research contributes to the Working Group "Chemical Speciation Modelling to Meet 21st Century Needs" (2015-2020): I chair this Working Group, which has been established by the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR). The aims are (i) to develop an internationally agreed “best available” chemical model for seawater including trace components; and (ii) to make this model freely available through web-based tools.
