About Lars Arneborg

Research

My research is mainly about transport, turbulence, and mixing processes in the ocean, and how this is influenced by stratification and bottom topography. I am working on a large range of scales from ocean currents to millimeter scale turbulent eddies to investigate processes like:

  • Exchange of gases and other substances over the ocean/atmosphere and ocean/sediment interfaces.
  • Tidally generated turbulence and breaking internal waves over steep topography.
  • Inflow of warm water towards ocean terminating glaciers in Antarctica and Greenland.
  • Dispersion of plast, organisms, and other substances in coastal seas and large lakes.
  • Influence of ships on mixing and biological production in the surface ocean.

I do this mainly through theory and field observations but even through numerical models.
