Book Release: A Philosophical View of the Ocean and Humanity

Activity

A new book by Anders Omstedt from the Department of Marine Sciences that:

- Emphasizes the need to change human attitudes toward the ocean.
- Offers unique ideas on combining science and the arts.
- Represents an important guide to transdisciplinary thinking as an antidote to tomorrow´s fragmented world.
- Is a strong support to the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030).

Welcome to a book release that is aiming for the future!

Anders Omstedt is a professor emeritus in oceanography at the University of Gothenburg, Department of Marine Sciences. His main work has examined the ocean climate and ice-covered water bodies.

His new book is written in two modes, a concerned analytical scientific mode and an intuitive artistic mode in which the ocean is given a voice. The disconnect in the relationship between human dependency on and treatments of the ocean is examined in a dialogue between these two modes. The book illustrates how science and the arts can be connected to increase our awareness of the state of the ocean and support behavioural change.

This book is intended for everyone who would like to contribute to the sustainable use of the ocean. Welcome to listen to Anders Omstedt sharing us his ideas behind the book, discuss new perspectives on the future and get the chance to get a signed copy of the book.

Free lunch sandwich and something to drink will be offered.
