Om Birte Gülk

I am a doctoral student in physical oceanography with the focus on the formation of Maud Rise Polynyas. Polynyas are openings within the sea ice in the winter season, while Maud Rise is a seamount in the Weddell Sea. The region of Maud Rise is prone to polynya openings, the latest openings occurred in 2016 and 2017. To investigate the formation process of these I run regional numerical simulations using a regional set up of NEMO with ocean and ice component in two different horizontal resolutions. For validation of the model results, I am using available observational data sets, such as satellite data or CTD casts.
